Wibu-Systems® USA Announces New Document Protection Tool

New Wizard will simplify the document protection process.

Seattle, Washington, November 9, 2007, Wibu-Systems USA, Inc a leading provider of solutions designed to protect software, documents, media files and to control computer access, today announced a major enhancement to its SmartShelter® document protection system.

There are many types of documents that need to remain confidential. Correspondence between attorney and client, internal research and development files and personal medical records are examples of documents that should have a very restricted readership. For some time now, Wibu-System’s SmartShelter System has provided a way to secure such documents using a combination of AES level encryption coupled with a hardware USB “key.”

“The new Wizard we just built into SmartShelter brings the power of this system to non-programmers,” explained Marcellus Buchheit, the President and CEO of WIBU-USA. “By simply opening the wizard, selecting the files to be protected and making a few security feature selections, a user can control who has access to confidential information. Only an authorized person in possession of the correct SmartShelter USB key will be able to open protected document.”

The SmartShelter System builds on the technology uniquely found in Wibu-Systems’ CodeMeter stick a USB device that acts as a hardware based encryption engine and encryption key storage device. CodeMeter contains a proprietary SmartCard chip and patented technology that allows the stick to be run without the need for operating system drivers.

The SmartShelter System can bring very sophisticated security, with a couple of mouse clicks, to any company needing to protect price lists, product manuals, training manuals or control the timed release of press announcements. PDF or HTML documents are encrypted using the new SmartShelter wizard and can only be decrypted if a CodeMeter stick containing the correct decryption key is physically attached to the computer opening the file. If CodeMeter is not present, the opened file appears as “garbage” text.
